Probate is the legal process that takes place after someone dies. It often involves:
- Proving in court that a deceased person's will is valid, however, if there is no will the closest family members may petition the court to receive the assets of the decedent
- Identifying and inventorying the deceased person's property
- Having the property appraised
- Paying debts and taxes
- Distributing the remaining property as the will directs, or by state law if there is no will
The Los Angeles Probate Administration Lawyers at Legal Action Workshop (L.A.W.) represent
beneficiaries (people who receive the assets by a will), or
heirs (people who receive the assets if there is no will), including executors (a person who is named in the will to probate the estate),
administrators (generally a close family member who petitions the court to be in charge of the probate process), in the following areas:
- the probating of an estate with or without a will
- some will contests
Many years of experience enables us to counsel surviving spouses and children during this transition and help them make sound legal decisions for their future.
